(These workshops will not be recorded.)

This workshop session features two half day workshops

The Art - and Science - of Being Productive: Mental performance, goal setting, and playing games - how they relate and how they create the blueprints for success.

Sharing What We've Learned: When you've learned something new and useful — like you will at the Mac Admins Conference — one of the best things to do is to share it with others, whether that's with co-workers, people in your city or region, or the broader community. We want to help you share your knowledge. This session will focus on Why Mac Admins share (and the related benefits), the common ways we share, and practical techniques and considerations regarding How we share. We will cover giving presentations, blogging, and other modes of community interaction and sharing.

Practical Python for Mac Admins
Whether you are already comfortable with Bash or AppleScript or Automator or just want to learn more about scripting in general there are practical reasons to use Python. Python is both approachable and different than some other languages available on macOS. You can write scripts just as quickly and end up with code that is easily reused and maintained over time. Python is a well-rounded language that is accessible to beginners, yet powerful enough for experts to use in large applications such as Munki and AutoPkg.

We will start small with some introductory Python concepts outlining some key language features that help explain why you would want to use Python and work our way up to more complicated real-world examples.

Securing & Enabling the Mac-Empowered Enterprise
(This session will not be recorded)
As the demand for the Mac OS increases from end users across the enterprise, IT staffs need to prepare to deploy and protect these devices as effectively as they do their Windows machines. A common misconception is that Mac devices are not susceptible to malicious attacks; however as the ransomware industry (and the preference for Mac) continues to grow, inevitably, Macs will be targeted. IT teams globally need to be prepared to protect the vital data stored on these devices and ensure the policies and procedures are in place to recover from catastrophic events. Code42 will share how IT can protect data with complete visibility and integrated management while delivering the self-service capabilities and uninterrupted productivity that end users demand.

NoMAD: Leave Directory Services in the Dust
(This session will not be recorded)
This session will cover how to use NoMAD, the open source tool for interacting with AD and other directory services, to make your existing environment better and remove the need for binding to directory service at all. In addition, Joel will show off how NoMAD will soon be able to interact with other SAML-based directory solutions, smart card authentication, and our newest product NoMAD Helper.

NoMAD Helper allows you to configure users, admins and even authentication mechanisms for users over MDM with no directory service involvement. Scope users to machines by adding that machine to a configuration policy in your favorite MDM management tool. Allow your users to elevate themselves to admins without involving someone from the Help Desk. NoMAD Helper will even allow you to fully provision local accounts on DEP systems in a programmatic fashion. And when you dont want the account on the machine anymore all you have to do is remove the configuration profile.

'ARD In the Cloud': Introducing TCM from Twocanoes Software
(This session will not be recorded)

A class is starting in 10 minutes and you need to install an app on 100 Macs but your client management agent doesn't check in for another 30 minutes. No one is paying attention to what you are saying because they are staring at the screen in front of them. TCM from Twocanoes Software solves these problems and more. Think of it as "ARD in the Cloud" where you can trigger actions from a browser instantly to a large number of Macs and get feedback that these actions completed. You can trigger your client management agent to do a check-in, lock the screen so people pay attention, restart the machines or do a screenshot to see how machines are being used. Learn how TCM leverages WebSockets to securely send messages regardless of where the machine is located and how to create new actions to accomplish things that need to happen right away. Attend this session and learn how to use TCM to turn the next IT fire drill into your next raise.
